more of my favourite home. still...after all these years.

i've always struggled to find much out about this house since i saw it in a vogue living magazine in the mid 2000s. when i search google to find out more, i land back on my blog! quite funny really.

i do know it was designed by 24 year old natalie raw, who is obviously not 24 years old now. according to google, she now works for architecture firm hulena architects limited.

more photos can been seen on the pavilions website here

american post war or contemporary minimalist?

i decided to post these pictures as i really like the decking on the first and the grass and path on the second. plus i am always a fan of a flat roof.

black timber cladding....for my house extension

when you have a property on a long skinny block which is on a street corner, there is an additional concern which you wouldn't have if you were on the corner. will my house look great from the front, yet like an ugly skinny barn from the side!

my house is a triple gabled queenslander cottage on a 10m x 40m block. with the roof pitch the way it is, if i continue it then yes.....the house will look like a barn. so i have to be creating with any extensions, yet still sympathetic to the character. my solution is to have the extension quite modern, yet still tied into the existing building by either a similar use of materials, same colour palette or a complimentary colours.

my house will be white.....then extension can be black or gray.

owen and vokes....my favourite in brisbane

I've been a fan of Paul Owen's work since selling his house in Ascot a few years ago. I'm still a big fan. Hopefully he will still be in practice when I have the finances to buy a large parcel of land in the bush and the finances to get him to design something. one day.

Modern Country Houses

Mount Macedon House by Inarc Design
image location: architecture.com.au

I have a fascination with two types of country houses; ultra modern with a post war style twist, and late 1800s early 1900s cottages. My dream would be to own two country houses. Perhaps build one at Cedar Creek, near Samford in Brisbane, and another in the mountains, up near Mount Nebo or Mount Glorious. It could also be a business proposition, weekly rents of say $4000. I'm sure if you marketed it correctly to an international market, it could be a really money maker. I would definately like a full time gardener to maintain both. What a devine idea, hopefully it will make it to a reality.

The Wheatsheaf Home
One of my favourite country/bush houses. I first saw it in about 2003, and it has cropped up in several books i have purchased since.
