subway tiles...in white

subway tiles have always been a favorite for a period queenslander cottage. my current dilemma is what height to take them too in the bathroom though? ceiling or shower height?

and for the kitchen, i love love love them laid diagonally. little challenging though. i'm going shopping for tiles this weekend!

i'm definitely having shelves above my kitchen cabinets such as this. better work out the brackets before i tile though. didn't think of that. oops!

i'm going to have a tiled shower tray rather than a shower over bath. i do like the seamless glass shower screen and i also like the little shelf above the pedestal basin.

bathroom renovation.....pillar taps

last night, as i watched a trail of ants disappearing behind my tiles in my shower, i thought further about getting serious with a bathroom renovation.

got a tiler - check

got a plumber - check

stud wall for plumbing to back onto kitchen wall - to do list

bathroom vanity - check

tiles - to do list

faucets - researching

i also want to relocate my toilet from the rear of the house into the bathroom. not sure of the expense of that but.....

white wisteria

the chinese wisteria is spectacular in bloom. i already have a white wisteria planted under my stairs to grow up the railings, yet i'm so impatient, i went and bought another two...both purple. i went to a few nurseries in brisbane to see what i could find, and ended up getting two which have long tentacles from lifetyle centre, 225 mount glorious road, samford. i hadn't purchased from there before yet the lady who served me was very knowledgeable and ended up giving me a free plant, being a Pandorea jasminoides 'Lady Di'. i told her of my plans for an arbor and she expects that the lady di would be the best option. several of them though. aparently they are best planted in spring yet she suggested getting them established now so they are ready to go nuts in spring.


my other favorite nursery is nova garden nursery on settlement road at the gap. i bought 12 chinese star jasmine there the other day which i've planted along the wire fence between my house and the neighbours. there is already hedges planted the length yet they are only about knee high so i need something to sort out the unsightly fence for the time being!

old paper wreath

i was in toowoomba a few weeks ago to spend some time with mum and went to a shop at highfields which has a lot of white painted furniture and other good ideas. the shop is called simple things small joys. it is on the highway in a little precinct of small shops called abbie lane. 

on the rear wall the shop had a wreath made from pages of an old book. such a great idea. this morning i saw another on the blog of paint me white. another project for my list of things to make/do!

and guess what....there is a video on youtube which shows you how to make an antique paper wreath. much easier than fumbling your way through it.

extensions....in black

i've always liked the idea of a white house with a contemporary black extension, to really divide the old and new. i found the following posted on desire to inspire. i'm not really in a position to be doing an extension but i can always dream!
