Mid Century Modern

Share

Although i am currently in love with houses which have a country feel, twist of french and a bit of rustic, and heaps of white, i am still in love with what i refer to as classic American mid 1940s or post war modernism. I have no idea what it is really referred to, yet a brilliant original example is that of american architect Philip Johnson's Glass House.

The pictures above are of my favourite house of all time. It was designed by Natalie Raw, when she was only 24 years old for her families property at Lake Rotoiti in New Zealand. I saw it in Australian Vogue Living July/August 2006, which showcases what i think are more flattering images. It is the pavilion style, the flat simple roofs, black and the outdoors almost appearing as artwork as it provides such an amazing backdrop.

  1. HI. I remember seeing this house in one of my many magazines. It is more 'stark' than I would normally like, but IS fabulous. Thanks for posting it here. I also love your green background!
