extensions....in black

i've always liked the idea of a white house with a contemporary black extension, to really divide the old and new. i found the following posted on desire to inspire. i'm not really in a position to be doing an extension but i can always dream!

love love love black weatherboards and black paneling!

black in the bathroom......am i game?

i have been toying with the idea of a black kitchen. or at least black cabinets and black subway tiles. am i game to take black to the bathroom. would it make sense to have black very distinctive both? i am loving the wallpaper yet how will it last with my hot steamy showers? what to do?

kitchen ideas.....bars, black subway tiles, marble subway tiles and white stools

there are so many funky bars with great interior design ideas to borrow. one of my favorites to date is the pict i found on habachy designs.  it is the bar from the nightclub called aurum, in atlanta, georgia.

perhaps an all black kitchen.  hmmmm. i am not going to be able to sleep at all tonight.

black timber cladding....for my house extension

when you have a property on a long skinny block which is on a street corner, there is an additional concern which you wouldn't have if you were on the corner. will my house look great from the front, yet like an ugly skinny barn from the side!

my house is a triple gabled queenslander cottage on a 10m x 40m block. with the roof pitch the way it is, if i continue it then yes.....the house will look like a barn. so i have to be creating with any extensions, yet still sympathetic to the character. my solution is to have the extension quite modern, yet still tied into the existing building by either a similar use of materials, same colour palette or a complimentary colours.

my house will be white.....then extension can be black or gray.

so this is where i am at. perhaps a little black?

i started painting my window seat nook in the lounge room black today. might not be the smartest idea but i am sure i will find out in the very near future. the question is how much monocromatic colour to splash.

i have borrowed which heather clawson from the habitually chic blog. the pictures are of jenna lyon's house which was featured in livingetc and domino.

provincial home living

i opened the latest edition of australian country style this morning stopped instantly on page 5. the advert for provincial home living caught my eye as i love the block book case. it is exactly what i want, but i dont want to buy one, i want to build one. wish me luck. i also have a hall table which looks simular to the desk. if i build the hutch bit to go overtop, it will be perfect. might need to buy a router. back to ebay i go.
